Do you know that feeling when you walk into a luxury hotel lobby and it just smells… expensive? I wanted to bring that exact vibe into my home without spending a fortune on designer candles or plug-ins.
Today, I’m sharing my secret weapon for getting my house ready for the weekend (or whenever guests drop by!). It’s a DIY Room Deodorizer and Neutralizer that is cheap, easy, and likely uses ingredients you already have in your pantry.
The best part? It doesn’t just cover up smells—it actually neutralizes them. Plus, I’m using a special fragrance dupe that makes my entire home smell exactly like the W Hotel!
Why This Recipe Works
We aren’t just mixing water and perfume here. This recipe is designed to actually clean the air:
- White Vinegar: This is the powerhouse. The acetic acid in vinegar neutralizes odor-causing molecules and germs. Don’t worry—the vinegar smell dissipates quickly, leaving only the fresh scent behind.
- Cinnamon Base: A warm, natural base that adds depth.
- Dawn Dish Soap: This acts as an emulsifier (since oil and water don’t mix!) and helps the spray come out of the nozzle as a fine mist rather than a greasy mess.
What You’ll Need
- 8.5 oz Water
- 3-4 Cinnamon Sticks
- 5 oz White Vinegar
- 2 tbsp Dawn Dish Soap
- 1 Capful Fragrance Oil (I used Vinevida “24 Karat Magic” – a W Hotel scent dupe!) Click Here to Purchase on Amazon
- A Clear Glass Spray Bottle – Click here to. purchase from Amazon
Instructions
1. Create Your Cinnamon Base Start by adding your water and cinnamon sticks to a pot on the stove. Let it warm up and simmer until the scent of cinnamon fills the room and the water turns a light brown color. Tip: I use 4 sticks because I’m extra, but 3 works too!
2. Let it Cool This is important! Let the cinnamon water cool down completely before transferring it. Once cool, pour it into your spray bottle.
3. Add the Odor Fighter Pour in the 5 oz of white vinegar. This is what will tackle those lingering kitchen or pet smells.
4. Add the Luxury Scent Add a capful of your fragrance oil. I highly recommend Vinevida oils. I used to use more expensive brands, but I found that Vinevida gives you a bigger bottle for less money, and the scent is incredibly potent. The “24 Karat Magic” scent is absolute heaven.
5. The Secret Ingredient Finally, add 2 tablespoons of Dawn dish soap. This binds the oil and water together so you get a perfect spray every time.
6. Shake and Spray! Give the bottle a gentle shake to mix everything. Spray it on soft surfaces, in the air, or anywhere that needs a refresh.
Final Thoughts
I use this spray all the time, and every single time someone walks into my house, they ask me what that amazing smell is. It’s a little luxury for pennies on the dollar.
Let me know in the comments if you try the W Hotel scent or if you experiment with a different scent!
